    Floating Market

In two 8-passenger Toyota vans we drove to the Floating Market at Damnoen Saduak, a large complex on the dock and farmers in boats - very colorful and a chance to buy fruit snacks for the road: pomelo, rose apples and delicious mangos. Pontus rode in our van today and described his Thailand lifestyle.

    Death Museum Cemetery

Drove on to visit the Death Museum in Kanchanaburi featuring a WWII railroad built in Thailand for Japanese forces who brutally used POW manpower . We filed by very grizzly displays and through a cemetary where several thousand allied prisoners are buried, mostly Australian, English and Dutch soldiers. US prisoners are not buried here. It was very disturbing and shocking.

    Arriving at the Raft Hotel

We finally boarded long tail boats on the Kwai Noi River to reach our lodgings on rafts in the jungle. The Hmong people who were our hosts provided our dinner, a special folk dance performance and for minimal fee a thoroughly relaxing massage. Kerosene lanterns that provided all light were useful to smoke out the mosquitos until we went to bed with netting provided.
