Thailand 2005-2006 Home Base and Eldertreks Tour

Before leaving the Sofitel we emailed a birthday message to Chloe. Although most of the day was spent in the vans driving to Phitsnulok, we made a scheduled stop to bring food and supplies to monks at a small Wat. Here Bee got a call that her Aunt had just died so she was able to pray for her Aunt in a very moving ceremony at the temple.

The long drive was rewarded by our delightful Rain Forest Resort on the river. Separate bungaloes with lovely zen style decor, raised platform beds and on each deck overlooking the river were low tables with silk cushions. We stretched our legs exploring the territory along the river, crossed a swinging bridge to walk up a dusty road in the sparsely populated area, and climbed over river rocks before returning to the resort for a beer and good dinner with ample fresh vegetables, some cooked by Bee. That night Ann dreamed of a baby hippo sharing our sleeping platform!
