Flight was on time, smooth and we made it to the Hotel Equatorial, which is nice and in a great location. We bussed to the Bund to walk on promenade by the water lined with classic old European buildings that have seen better days as prominent part of Shanghai history. Ann was impressed. Bob remembers the location but sees new growth.

Our field trip to the Children’s Palace was uninspiring, really an art enrichment program after school. The kids were cute, though, and maybe we were just too tired to appreciate the scene. James, our local guide, is rather aloof.

Colds are a drag, Bob has a sore throat now. After dinner to which we were bussed virtually around the corner and across the street, we were bussed a few more blocks to the American International Shopping Center anchored by the Ritz Carlton Hotel, surrounded by European/American shops and restaurants - Haagen Das, Tony Romas, Starbucks. Here we attended a Chinese Acrobat Show for tour groups, a very skilled and breathtaking performance. Yang walked back to the Hotel with those of us who could not abide another bus ride.
