We visited Mao’s villa on East Lake near our hotel in Wuhan. Part of this tour, one building, was closed for renovation so we saw the actual residence which underscored how eccentric Mao became. We saw his and Madam Mao’s bedrooms. Our guide, Viviane, was knowledgeable and accommodating. Her English is very good. She was so busy getting us on the train that Bob didn’t find a tip opportunity until he leaned out the train window and handed it to her before we pulled out of the station.

The train ride to Changsha on hard seats in a packed coach was a long 4 hours. We are in a new and comfortable hotel here with good beds which we fell into soon after our late dinner and promise of 2 night stay with time to take care of laundry. Ann is interested in using the indoor swimming pool tomorrow. Dinner was Hunan hot for first 2 courses, then quite mild.
