12/25/05 - Merry Christmas Hanoi
We slept until 7:30 this morning and when we got to breakfast we found the room filled with new folks! Our group left at noon for lunch at a French-Vietnamese restaurant serving special noodle and pork soup - delicious. Mandee produced a special Christmas Cake for dessert.
After a seemingly endless bus ride to Sontay to visit a Buddhist Temple and a Tao Temple, we walked to a neigboring farm, crashed a wedding feast just ending and were served tea by the grandfather of the family. Met some nice water buffaloes and lovely children on this trip.
Back to Hanoi to the same restaurant where we had lunch and had a good dinner with red wine plus another Christmas Cake from ElderTreks and fudge bars from Roger. Overcast and smog most of the day was a little oppressive, but when we left dinner it had started to rain, lifting our spirits, possibly clearing the air. A few of us admitted to having colds- Ann’s bad, Bob’s better. Looking forward to leaving for Hue tomorrow.
