1/6/06 - Saigon
We toured Saigon this morning, Notre Dame Cathedral, the historic post office looking a bit like a Parisian train station, the war museum, and Reunification Hall. We wished Bob and Marcy well on their trip home.
For our free afternoon we walked with Jim, Mandy, Linda and Kathleen to the river and check out the new tourist hotels across the street. Ordered drinks in the lobby of a very elegant hotel that was so modern that the sleek Japanese-designed hygienic shower spray seat feature in the powder room gave Ann an opportunity to test the instant dry feature of Ellen’s travel pants - excellent.
Our steady bus driver, Dai, and his charming assistant, Long, said good-bye as they dropped us off at dinner, which was at a Chinese Restaurant, more seafood and special deep fried soft-shelled crab which melted in our mouths, shell, legs and all.
Our last time with many of our group made us reflect on our dynamic leaders: Ms Thuy is a wonderful, articulate, beautiful and sensitive woman, a meticulous planner, especially concerned for our health and that our meals be always well balanced. But most importantly we learned from her the intricate nuances of historical and modern Vietnam; and gallant, generous Roger whose cool and kindness, patience and sense of humor balanced the caprices of our diverse group.
