We had breakfast in the room again. It included orange juice and milk which we bought the day before. We walked to the mall and had more coffee and a muffin. I also bought a sandwich for lunch.

At 9:00, Dave and Jean Struthers drove some of us up to Lake Louise. I intended to do an out-and-back on the lake trail, but I got carried away and decided to do a longer hike. I followed a bunch of teenagers from Long Island for awhile until they got tired and let me pass. I continued on to the Plain of Six Glaciers and back tracked to the tea house where I ate my sandwich. Then it was back down the trail until the intersection to Lake Agnes. I took this trail and met up with Dick, Bill and Dusty who were doing the hike in the opposite direction. They told me to be careful on the downhill onto Lake Agnes and they were right. It was very steep and had several switchbacks. I stopped at the tea house at Lake Agnes and had a snack. Then it was down the hill past Mirror Lake and on to the chalet. This was the same hike that Ann and I took a few years ago when we were on a Backroads hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies.

When I got to the chalet, I realized how tired and thirsty I was and decided to drink some water and wander around inside the hotel for awhile. When I was done with that, I tried to find a shuttle bus to take me down the hill. When this was unsuccessful, I began to walk down the trail to the village. I was a little nervous when I spotted some bear scat. There were very few people on the trail and it was fairly isolated from the road. I made lots of noise so I wouldn't surprise any bears.

When I got to the village, I had an apple turnover and walked over to the room at 4:00. After showering, I lay on my bed for awhile to rest my legs and feet. It is surprising how being in shape for cycling long distances does not prepare you for long, hilly hikes. My hike was in the 8-10 mile range.

Dick and I had dinner at the Lake Louise Lodge in the village. I had spaghetti and a berry crumble. After dinner we walked through the Post Hotel where Ann and I stayed when we were here with Backroads.
