Cortona Town Hall

Our first side trip was to Cortona. After wandering through the town, we were treated to a wine tasting party. A local Italian gentleman described each of the wines before we tasted them. All of the wines were local and most of them were very good. The appetizers were excellent.

The Basilica of S. Francesco

Our next side trip was to Assisi. After touring the basilica and part of the town, we had a good al fresco lunch.

Siena - Piazza del Campo

Our next side trip was to Siena. After touring the duomo and part of the town, we had a good al fresco lunch on the piazza.

Florence - Antico Fattore

Our next side trip was to Florence. Because we had only a short time there, our lunch was the highlight.

Lago Trasimeno - Fishermen mending nets

Our last side trip was to Lago Trasimeno. This lake is the largest lake in this part of Italy and lies south of La Rocca. We got there by driving over a ridge on some tertiary roads and inadvertently visiting some hilltop villages. We also saw many different water birds.
