BAC Pics Dakotas Road Trip - 2019

    Carhenge

We drove into town and had breakfast at Mornin' Sunshine Coffee House again. Really good eggs sandwiches and cappuccinos was a repeat from yesterday. No wait today because the weekday hours were earlier than on Sunday.

Our convoy split up today. The Bensons and Matutes were on their way back to Kansas City while we were going back to Lafayette. We did, however, meet up at our last sightseeing distination, Carhenge in Alliance, NE. It was cold, windy and cloudy as we walked through the car sculpture that was modeled after and copied from Stonehenge by Jim Reinders in 1987. This was not serious art but it was fun to see. I bought a coffee mug with a photo of Carhenge on it. That paid for our admission.

Driving south and the west on I80, there were ominous clouds building up to the south. (Think tornadoes). We stopped at a truck stop for lunch hoping that the clouds would dissipate. We were not so lucky. By the time we passed Cheyenne and turned onto I25 it started hailing. It came down so hard and built up so high, I stopped on the shoulder along with many other cars to see if it would stop. It didn't, so we drove on slowly hoping that the fast dirvers would not spin out in front of us. We eventually drove out of it into sunny skies.

Arriving at the Mortons, we unloaded the car, filled it with gas, ran it through the car wash and vacuumed it out. Karen fixed us a nice salmon dinner which we ate along with Tim and Erica. Otie, Kuma and Eskie made sure that there were no leftovers.
