    Ålesund

We arrived in Alesund at 8:00 to blue skies and warm weather. With no scheduled excursion planned, Ellen joined Ann and me on a stroll through the city. Alesund is noted for its concentration of Art Nouveau architecture and we headed directly for that area of the city. It was very close to the pier. The buildings were well preserved and picturesque. There were a few interesting statues along the way as well as a sparkling inner harbor.

We considered climbing the 418 steps to My Aksla, but decided to do that when we returned in two weeks. Instead, we made our way back to the ship for lunch and a lazy afternoon. We had dinner in the dining room and then went to the World Stage for the showing of Planet Earth II in Concert. This was a combination of live music set against a backdrop of breath-taking footage from BBC Earth.
