When we got up the next morning, we had breakfast in the garden patio. We enjoyed fruit juice, home-made tomales, French bread and local preserves, unusual fruits, mild white Costa Rican cheese, boiled pollo eggs, Gallo Pinto, and freshly perked Central Mesita coffee. After breakfast, we had some time to spare, so we walked around the area near our hotel. After that, we took a taxi to the National Car Rental office near the airport, met John, Suellen and Cecilia and took off on the Pan American Highway north to Guanacaste. Lunch was along the PanAm Highway at Caballo Blanco, the White Horse. Good fried yucca and guarabana juice!

Our drive along the Pan American Highway was facinating. The road is two-lane and faily well paved in most places. The traffic is very heavy in spots, especially in the hilly areas where there are many very slow-moving, diesel-spewing trucks and busses. We drove trough open fields and tropical forests. At times, we had good views of the ocean.

We arrived at Hacienda de los Inocentes in the afternoon. We had two cabins - John, Suellen and Cecilia in one and us in the other.
