Last year when I rode on the Leevers' Italy tours, they gave a report on scouting a new tour in the Val d'Aosta region of Italy. They said that it would be a difficult ride and that the weather would be unpredictable. They told us that it rained and snowed almost every day that they were there. I took this as a challenge and signed up.

Well, they were correct. The ride was difficult and the weather was unpredictable. Although the daily mileage was short, our climbs were in the range of 4000 - 5000 feet. The unpredictable weather was almost always dry. The exception was at the top of St Bernard Pass where we had sleet and snow.

The routes that the Leevers chose were some of the most scenic that I have ridden on a BAC tour. Tom's route sheets were almost perfect, a rarity for a first-time tour. Our accommodations ranged from comfortable family-run inns to fancy modern hotels. All of them had free wifi. If I were to go back to Val d'Aosta, I would stay in the same places.

The food was good to great. Julie has a talent to select good restaurants and to provide excellent choices for group meals.

I recommend this tour to any intermediate to strong BAC member. I rate it as "excellent". As a first-time tour, I rate it as "outstanding".
