​I thought that the Von Trapp family is from Austria. If so, why does Stowe celebrate Octoberfest? Isn't this a German tradition?

​I made the decision to stay away from my bicycle today. It was locked up in my room. My body parts were sore and the weather was threatening. This was my excuse. Besides, there was lots to do in Stowe.

​I started the day at the inn's good breakfast. I ordered French toast with bacon. I also took some fresh fruit from the buffet. All items were included in our rate. I was joined by Ken Stahl and Shirley Ripullone. Afterwards I watched the last two periods of Sam's Wenatchee Wild hockey game on my iPad. I watched the first period the night before and had to stop when it got too late. When it was over, I had a yearning for some good coffee. The Black Cap Coffee shop up the street had an espresso machine so I had a good cappuccino.

​Feeling refreshed, I found the local walking/cycling trail and walked about a mile where I found a huge Octoberfest tent. Inside were booths selling local trinkets as well as Trapp Beer and wursts. I wandered around for a while listening to the oompah band until I was hungry. I had a bratwurst sandwich with sauerkraut and German potato salad. Not very good. The Trapp Octoberfest beer was better. I hung around on my seat at a long tables and watched kids, adults, and kids with adults dancing to some good German music. Lots of women were in dirndls and men in lederhosen. By the time I left, there were hundreds of people filling the tent. It was a fund raiser for the local Rotary club.

​I walked back to our inn using a different route and spent the afternoon reading.

​We had a short Happy Hour after which I had dinner at Harrison's Restaurant with Jeff Smith, John Beland, Trever Frid, and Julie and Tom Leever. The restaurant was very good. I had pecan encrusted catfish with a delicious orange sauce.

​We have a choice of two rides tomorrow to get back to Burlington. I decided to do the longer one because I can't resist going over Smugglers Notch. The name intrigues me.
