Nothing to report today. I was sick and slept all day. Ann did not take notes, so I do not know what she did.

    April 8 - Sydney

Ann and I split up today taking different shore excursions. She went on HAL's Sydney Sights and the Opera House which had a early start. My tour was ShoreTrips Sydney by Bike which left a couple of hours later. I was still feeling feeling poorly even after taking some Tylenol that Juan gave me. (Juan, a very seasoned traveller, has a variety of pills to combat almost everything). They helped because I was ready to get off from the ship and find Bonza Bike Tours which was running the tour. The shop was only a couple of blocks from the terminal and I had little trouble finding it.

After having a bike fitted for me, I was joined by Sue from Calgary and Patrick from Denver. They were in Sydney for business. Steve was our chatty and knowledgeable guide. He is a singer, actor, comic, etc. as well as a bicycle tour guide. Our tour was a leisurely four-hour ten-mile route through the city. We stopped many times for photos and for Steve's insight about each area.

Highlights included Circular Quay, The Rocks, an out-and-back ride on the Harbor Bridge, one of Sydney's oldest pubs (I couldn't drink a beer because of my cold), Darling Harbor, Chinatown, Hyde Park, the Botanical Gardens and the Opera House. The weather was warm and the terrain was reasonably flat. We had to walk our bikes in a few places because of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

This was a fun tour that gave me a good orientation of Sydney and gave me an excuse to get some good exercise. My shipmates also had a good tour and, unlike me, were able to go inside the Opera House.

Back at the ship, we met again for dinner. There was no formal entertainment tonight. This was because of a major turnover of passengers. Many Passengers were booked for the Auckland to Sydney portion of the tour. The passengers that boarded in Sydney were going to Hawaii, Vancouver or Alaska.
